Journalist and Filmmaker

Who is this guy?

I am a journalist who thinks that the most powerful way to tell a story is to show it. What is the point of doing excellent work if it isn't accessible?

Maybe it sounds strange to say but I don't have set interests as a journalist. I'm interested in good stories. That said, my work so far has followed themes of conflict, human rights, climate change, drugs, technology, and anything related to subcultures.

I started 'The Real Story' at the end of 2023 in order to be able to tell these stories. We recently eclipsed 200,000 views, which absolutely blows my mind.
I realise this is the about me section, so here is some classic about me stuff.
I did an undergraduate degree in philosophy at the University of Cambridge, where I was awarded the Caldwell Prize for Academic Excellence. Whilst I was there I didn't really know what I wanted to do job-wise. I got sucked into the corporate bubble and did an internship in tech-and-finance recruitment, which was the dullest eight weeks of my life. A colleague there recommended I listen to some journalism podcasts to pass the time as I worked, and I haven't looked back since.
I have now completed my NCTJ, having passed all modules to a gold standard. I am just waiting on the results on my portfolio to confirm the result.

I have decided to make a selection of work from across my life available on here. I appreciate you are probably only interested in the video and written journalism sections, but feel free to take a look at the philosophy, screenwriting, or poetry to give yourself a better picture of me not only as a journalist but also as a man.

When it comes to my work, may I suggest taking a look at 'Inside Ukraine: Two Years On' and 'Inside London's Illegal 420' for two very different types of video work and '4,500 ULEZ camera vandalisations since March 2023', 'AI girlfriends: part of a wider problem or the solution to male loneliness?', or 'Blitz survivor feels Gaza and Ukraine pain' for written work.

Happy scrolling and, if you like me, consider getting in touch, as I am always on the lookout for new and exciting opportunities.

Ben
